Simple blood test patterns before bone marrow procedures can now predict which patients need extra care to get reliable diagnostic results for blood cancers.
In a retrospective analysis of 875 patients with AML, MDS, multiple myeloma, or NHL, advanced age and low baseline CBC parameters (hemoglobin, platelets, WBC) were independently associated with suboptimal bone marrow aspirate quality in AML and MDS specifically. These findings identify pre-aspiration predictors that could guide procedural planning to improve diagnostic yield in the most common myeloid malignancies.
