Structural characterization and antitumor activity via immune modulation of an α-glucan from Grifola frondosa

A novel α-glucan (GFI-21α) isolated from Grifola frondosa (maitake mushroom) demonstrated potent in vivo antitumor activity in a mouse breast cancer model through CD8+ T-cell activation and IFN-γ-mediated immune effector responses, surpassing the clinical β-glucan lentinan. No direct cytotoxicity was observed in vitro, suggesting immune-mediated rather than direct tumor-killing mechanism.
