Wash-Free Digital Detection of Tumor Extracellular Vesicles via Plasmonic Droplet Microfluidics

A rapid, tiny-volume blood test distinguished prostate and lung cancers from healthy controls with very high accuracy in early testing, though clinical feasibility needs scaling up.

PlasDroplex is a wash-free digital EV detection system using plasmonic gold nanoparticles and droplet microfluidics that achieves AUC values of 0.926-0.998 for prostate and lung cancer discrimination from only 10 µL plasma in 63 clinical samples. The 1-hour assay with sub-zeptomolar sensitivity demonstrates potential for rapid, noninvasive cancer screening.
