Exosomal miRNA Predicts Response to Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
A five-molecule blood panel predicted which rectal cancer patients would fully respond to chemotherapy before surgery, potentially helping doctors choose whether to preserve the organ.
A 5-miRNA exosomal serum panel integrated with CEA level was developed and validated in 81 rectal cancer patients across two international centers, achieving AUC 0.90 for predicting pathological complete response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. This liquid biopsy approach could guide surgical decision-making and organ preservation strategies by identifying responders pre-operatively.
