Single-session photon-counting CT protocol for simultaneous screening of coronary and carotid artery disease and lung pathology
One efficient imaging scan can simultaneously screen for heart disease, stroke risk, and lung cancer while keeping radiation exposure low.
The ACTA screening study interim analysis (n=172) demonstrates that a single photon-counting CT session can simultaneously and safely screen high-risk adults for coronary artery disease, carotid plaques, and lung pathology (Lung-RADS 3-4 in 9%) with acceptable radiation dose; actionable findings triggered invasive coronary angiography in 5% and structured follow-up pathways. This multi-disease screening approach may improve efficiency of cardiovascular-oncologic preventive imaging.
