Two similar diabetes drugs carry comparable risks of urinary tract infections and related side effects, providing reassurance for either choice in individual patients.
This large Danish target trial emulation (n=86,432) comparing empagliflozin and dapagliflozin shows broadly similar urogenital adverse event profiles, with only marginally higher relative risks of genital tract infection and phimosis with empagliflozin — absolute differences are small and unlikely to be clinically decisive in drug selection. Findings provide real-world safety comparability for SGLT2 inhibitor class.
