Frailty and sex differences in blood pressure control in older adults

Frailty affects blood pressure control differently in men versus women, suggesting personalized hypertension strategies for older female patients.

In 1,038 Vietnamese older adults with hypertension, frailty is significantly more prevalent in women (35.3% vs 25.6%) and specifically associated with suboptimal blood pressure control in women (OR 2.01) but not men, suggesting sex-specific approaches are needed in geriatric hypertension management. The finding highlights frailty assessment as a potential tool for identifying high-risk older women with poorly controlled hypertension.
