The role of MAFLD in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with stable COPD: a prospective cohort study
Liver disease in COPD patients signals dramatically elevated cardiovascular risk, warranting routine liver assessment.
In a prospective cohort of 168 stable COPD patients followed for 12 months, baseline MAFLD was independently associated with more than 4-fold increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events and was the strongest predictor in Bayesian model averaging. This finding identifies MAFLD as an underrecognized cardiovascular risk biomarker in COPD that may warrant routine hepatic assessment in this population.
