Quality-of-life assessment in the randomized JBCRG-M06/EMERALD study of eribulin plus dual HER2 blockade in HER2-positive locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer
A chemotherapy alternative preserves quality of life longer in HER2-positive breast cancer patients receiving dual antibody therapy.
In the randomized EMERALD trial, eribulin with trastuzumab+pertuzumab preserved quality of life significantly longer than taxane-based therapy in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (7.16 vs 4.57 months to QoL deterioration, HR 0.80). GHS scores remained stable in the eribulin arm while deteriorating during taxane treatment phases, supporting eribulin as a QoL-sparing alternative for patients receiving dual HER2 blockade.
What the study was
- Study design
- RCT QoL secondary endpoint analysis
- Population
- HER2-positive locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer; eribulin vs taxane each with trastuzumab+pertuzumab; n=432 randomized
- Sample size
- 432
- Category
- Treatment Innovation
- Maturity
- Validated
- Journal
- Breast Cancer
Why it surfaced
RCT QoL data directly relevant to treatment decisions; eribulin as taxane-sparing option with QoL benefit; HR 0.80 is modest; Eisai-funded study (COI noted).
