Interaction Between Air Pollution and Genetic Predisposition to Blood Pressure and LDL-C on Cardiovascular Events.
Genetic risk tests could identify which people benefit most from reducing air pollution exposure to prevent heart disease.
Using Mendelian randomization in a large biobank, this study demonstrates that air pollution exposure significantly amplifies cardiovascular event risk in individuals with genetic predisposition to high blood pressure or LDL-C, suggesting that genotyping may identify patients who benefit most from environmental risk reduction. This gene-environment interaction approach provides new evidence for precision cardiovascular prevention strategies.
