Neuropsychiatric Outcomes With Tirzepatide, Semaglutide, and Other GLP-1 Receptor Agonists

Two newer diabetes drugs show equivalent psychiatric safety while one demonstrates substantially lower suicide-related events than older alternatives.

This large real-world active-comparator study used 192-million-patient federated data to match 85,546 tirzepatide-semaglutide pairs and 80,115 semaglutide-vs-older-GLP-1 pairs for neuropsychiatric safety evaluation. Tirzepatide and semaglutide carried equivalent psychiatric risk at 2 years, while semaglutide demonstrated markedly lower psychiatric event rates versus older agents including a 51% lower suicidal ideation hazard.
