In 27,375 UK Biobank participants aged 40–70, metabolic syndrome is associated with significantly accelerated brain aging as measured by an ML-derived brain age gap (BAG), with each individual MetS component contributing independently. Eight plasma metabolites—including apolipoproteins, fatty acids, and inflammatory markers—significantly mediate the MetS-BAG association, suggesting inflammation and lipid metabolism as intervention targets for brain aging prevention.
