Cancer risk of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists for obesity: comparison with bariatric surgery and other weight-loss drugs
People taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs at therapeutic doses show lower rates of colorectal and pancreatic cancer compared to other weight-loss approaches, suggesting dose matters.
Using TriNetX data (662,013 GLP-1 RA users, 272,343 bariatric surgery, 158,446 other weight-loss drugs), propensity-matched analysis shows therapeutic-dose GLP-1 RA use in nondiabetic obesity patients is associated with significantly reduced colorectal and pancreatic cancer incidence compared with both bariatric surgery and other weight-loss medications. Importantly, any-dose GLP-1 RA use did not show significant differences, suggesting a dose-response relationship relevant to therapeutic prescribing.
