The association of combined metabolic score for insulin resistance and frailty index with incident cardiometabolic multimorbidity
Combining insulin resistance and frailty markers better predicts multiple chronic disease development in older adults than traditional risk factors alone.
Using China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study data (n=2,968, 230 incident CMM cases), the combined METSIR-FI index integrating insulin resistance and frailty burden incrementally predicts cardiometabolic multimorbidity beyond conventional risk factors, with each SD increase in cumulative index conferring 45% higher risk. Nonlinear dose-response relationships and threshold effects suggest practical composite risk stratification potential for older adults.
