Early cancer detection or prevention

Predictive value of peripheral blood cell-free DNA breast cancer gene mutation profiling for postoperative pathological malignancy in BI-RADS 4 breast nodules

A blood test could spare millions of women from unnecessary breast biopsies by better predicting which lumps are actually cancer.

cfDNA mutation profiling from peripheral blood was evaluated prospectively in patients with BI-RADS 4 breast nodules undergoing surgical biopsy, demonstrating predictive accuracy for malignant pathology. This liquid biopsy approach could reduce unnecessary biopsies in the millions of patients with ambiguous BI-RADS 4 mammographic findings annually.
