Lipoprotein(a)-dependent cardiovascular risk in different populations: are thresholds the same?
BACKGROUND: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a genetically determined, independent and causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and aortic stenosis. Lipoprotein(a) levels vary markedly between ancestral groups.Current lipoprotein(a) cardiovascular risk thresholds are skewed towards studies involving people of European ancestry. There is a need for future studies to ensure adequate diversity which would allow for broad conclusions and greater applicability of study results.
