MS-based metabolic profiling in serum for bipolar disorder.
Serum metabolic profiles show potential as biomarkers for bipolar disorder monitoring, laying groundwork for future targeted studies.
Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic psychiatric illness characterized by alternating episodes of mania and depression, with limited validated biomarkers for disease state monitoring. Although the results are preliminary and require validation in larger, drug-naive longitudinal cohorts, this mass spectrometry-based serum metabolic profiling study lays the groundwork for future targeted metabolomic studies aimed at clarifying state- and trait-related metabolic signatures in BD.
